Discover how Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) technology is transforming coastal development

|   DCM at a Glance

What is DCM?

Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) is a technique that strengthens soft seabed by injecting and mixing cement-based slurry directly into the ground — forming stable columns below the surface.

Why It Matters?

DCM enables safe, large-scale marine reclamation without dredging or heavy excavation — making it faster, cleaner, and more sustainable.

Where It’s Used?

Ideal for infrastructure like ports, airports, and coastal developments — especially where seabed conditions are weak or soft.

Targeted Injection

High-performance cement slurry is precisely injected deep into soft seabed zones using automated nozzles.

Deep In-Situ Mixing

Advanced rotating tools blend soil and binder beneath the water, forming a controlled, stable structure — without excavation.

Solid Column Formation

In minutes, the ground transforms into a grid of reinforced columns — ready to support heavy marine infrastructure.

Step-by-step illustration of how DCM strengthens soft marine soil

using in-situ slurry injection and auger mixing.

Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) strengthens seabeds by injecting cement slurry deep underground and mixing it with the native soft soil to form rigid, load-bearing columns. This diagram illustrates each stage of the process — from centering and augering, to injection and solidification. The result: stable ground with minimal environmental impact.

Hong Kong International Airport (HKIA)

HONG KONG

To support the 650-hectare reclamation for a third runway at Hong Kong International Airport, Deep Cement Mixing (DCM) was deployed to stabilize soft marine clay seabed — offering a non-intrusive, high-precision ground improvement solution.

KMC Founder Mr. Chul Keun Kim led DCM operations as Project Controller from 2016–2019, overseeing:

  • 926,000 m³ of DCM successfully treated

  • Zero safety incidents; full compliance

  • One of Asia’s largest marine DCM projects

Project Scope:

  • Location: North of Chek Lap Kok

  • Method: Marine DCM Barges

  • Stakeholders: Airport Authority HK, Penta-Ocean, others
